Basketball athlete Maya Moore is a star on and off the court. She was the first overall pick in the 2011 WNBA draft and it’s no surprise why. A player for the Minnesota Lynx, Ms. Moore made it to three WNBA finals in her first three seasons playing in the league. In her rookie season alone, she was awarded Rookie of the Year, while helping propel her team to also win the WNBA championship title, becoming only the second player in league history to achieve such success.

Today, Ms. Moore is a four-time WNBA champion, and has earned multiple awards including Most Valuable Player, Finals MVP, All-Star Game MVP (three times!), a WNBA Scoring Title, as well as two Olympic gold medals. Outside of the US, she’s also won basketball titles in Europe and China. It’s no wonder that Sport’s Illustrated has dubbed her the greatest winner in the history of women’s basketball. However, despite all her accomplishments, it is perhaps her work outside of the basketball court that will cement her legendary status.

Despite being at the peak of her athletic career, Ms. Moore has been taking a break from professional basketball since 2019 in order to put her efforts towards American justice reform. She is also an advocate for the End It Movement, working to end modern day slavery. In 2020, Maya Moore was recognized by Time Magazine in its 100 Most Influential People list. An honor she has rightfully achieved both in the basketball and legal courts.
